Strengthening Land Rights in Nwoya: A Week of Partnership and Progress with BSIN

At Northlight Green Services (NGS), we believe that sustainable development is built on the foundations of collaboration, shared accountability, and community empowerment. This past week, we were honored to host our funding partners and engage with district leadership to reflect on the vital work being done to secure land rights in Northern Uganda.

A Strategic Dialogue at Nwoya District Headquarters

Our week began on 6th March 2026, with a high-level courtesy visit to the Nwoya District Headquarters in Anaka. Accompanied by our partners from Bruder und Schwester in Not (BSIN), the NGS team met with key district officials in the Commercial Board Room to discuss our ongoing interventions.

We were privileged to engage with:

  • Mr. Simon Peter Ochwa (Senior Lands Management Officer)

  • Mr. Akena Juventus (Assistant RDC, Nwoya East)

  • Mr. Alfred Loum (Senior CDO)

The district leadership commended NGS for our hands-on approach to training duty bearers and facilitating community dialogues and mediation meetings. Specifically, our work across Alero, Koch Goma, and Koch Lii sub-counties was recognized for helping residents understand and claim their land rights effectively.

During a recent community meeting of over 3,000 participants, NGS’s contribution to land rights advocacy was publicly recognized as a lead partner in the land management sector. — Mr. Akena Juventus, Assistant RDC.

Hosting Our Partners: Learning and Reflection

Following our district engagement, on 7th March 2026, NGS had the distinct pleasure of hosting Ms. Marika Eisner (Managing Director of BSIN) and Ms. Sandra Schett (Project Coordinator for Bolivia, Tanzania & Uganda).

This visit provided an enriching space for our staff and Land Rights Defenders to share grassroots progress. It wasn’t just about reporting numbers; it was about sharing the lived experiences and learnings from our joint efforts to strengthen land rights for women and youth.

The Power of Collaboration

The feedback from both our partners and district officials highlighted three key areas where NGS is making a difference:

  1. Evidence-Based Interventions: Our baseline research was lauded for providing the insights necessary to guide targeted, effective land rights work.

  2. Complementary Partnerships: District leaders noted how NGS complements the work of other organizations, like Zoa, by focusing on capacity building and awareness.

  3. Inclusivity: By focusing on women and youth, we are ensuring that the most vulnerable members of the community have a seat at the table in land management.

Looking Ahead

We are deeply grateful for the continued trust and partnership of Bruder und Schwester in Not. It is through this collaboration that we can deliver sustainable, community-driven solutions. As we move forward, we remain committed to transparency, inclusive participation, and the advancement of lasting change in Nwoya.

Stay connected with us as we continue to advocate for secure land rights and sustainable livelihoods. 🌿🤝
