NGS is Conducting Community Awareness Sessions on Land Rights and Land Legislation in Koch Goma Sub-county, Nwoya District

NGS envisions A peaceful, informed, and economically empowered society in Northern Uganda able to effectively participate and contribute to National Development.”

While the Constitution of Uganda guarantees the land rights of women, youth, and other vulnerable groups, it is not being realized by this group. A baseline study conducted by Northlight Green Services (NGS) in Koch Goma Sub county in April 2024, revealed that over 78.8% of community members were not aware of any land legislation document and 85% of the household survey respondents knew nothing about the Acholi Constitution and in particular of the Acholi Land policies and practices recommended by the Ker Kwaro Institution which is the custodian of the predominant land tenure system in Acholi (customary land tenure).

NGS with funding from DKA Austria and BSIN and in partnership with Nwoya District Local Government, trained 30 local leaders on land rights and land legislating and together with the community leaders, have embarked on creating awareness among community members of Koch Goma Sub-county on land rights and land legislation, particularly targeting women, youth and other vulnerable groups. Together, we aim to Promote an inclusive society that respects the land rights of women, youth, and other vulnerable members of the community in Koch Goma Sub-County.

NGS mission is “To conduct and promote research, innovations, advocacy, and community capacity building for holistic transformation of Northern Uganda through Programmes primarily targeting women and youth”.
