Unlocking Sustainable Livelihoods with Dragon Fruit Farming in Gulu City! 🌱
At Northlight Green Services (NGS), we are thrilled to announce the establishment of our Dragon Fruit Farm and Learning Centre right here in Gulu City! This innovative initiative is more than just a farm—it’s a hands-on training hub designed to equip women, youth, and even charcoal traders with practical skills in dragon fruit cultivation as a sustainable alternative to environmentally harmful practices like brick burning and charcoal production.
Why dragon fruit? This vibrant and nutritious fruit thrives in the soils and climate of the Acholi sub-region, and offers a promising source of income in the short to mid-term through the sale of both fruits and cuttings. Our learning centre has already demonstrated that Gulu’s environment is highly suitable for dragon fruit farming, making it an ideal crop for local farmers and aspiring agri-preneurs.
Through our skilling programs, we aim to empower women and youth, and charcoal traders with new livelihood opportunities that not only boost household incomes but also contribute to environmental conservation. By shifting away from activities that deplete our natural forests, we are helping to preserve indigenous trees and promote a greener, healthier future for our communities.
We warmly invite:
· Women and youth seeking alternative livelihoods
· Charcoal traders ready to transition to sustainable income
· Farmers interested in growing dragon fruits
to join us at the NGS Dragon Fruit Learning Centre.
Come and learn how to cultivate dragon fruit, unlock new income streams, and become champions of sustainable agriculture in Northern Uganda
Partnerships and Funding Opportunities:
We are eager to partner with organizations interested in scaling out dragon fruit farming to their target groups. If your organization is passionate about sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, or economic empowerment, let’s collaborate! NGS is also seeking funding partners to expand our impact and reach even more communities.
Special thanks to our partners, including the Hanns Seidel Foundation, for their invaluable support in making this vision a reality
